Best Dressed Bump: Blake's Crazy-Amazing Pregnancy Style
CUSTOMIZED LEATHER LEGGINGS
Mama-to-be Lively's $950 J Brand skinnies were specially tweaked to fit her belly – a genius idea that pretty much puts every neighborhood tailor on notice. But that's not the only statement piece here: Her fur-trimmed cape translates right through the third trimester, and has us seriously rethinking ever reaching for a puffy coat again.
Before major closet envy sets in, remember Lively isn't the type of girl to say, "Oh, this old thing? I got it at some little shop in Paris years ago, I can't remember the name …" No, she's the stylish poster girl for her website Preserve, where a plaid mohair coat and tweed newsboy cap are instant Blake-ifiers. And she isn't afraid to re-wear – this time her cozy charcoal sweater gets more dressed down.
Leave it to Lively to make us second-guess those sensible LBDs in the backs of our closets. The pregnant actress encourages everyone to go backless in a sleek black KaufmanFranco gown that hugs her baby bump and shows some skin. "It's such a passion of mine," she told PEOPLE of her self-styling skills.
Even in pregnancy, she's dressing for the job she wants – Martha Stewart's, that is. In an angelic white Michael Kors knit with a coordinating embroidered skirt, Lively fits the role of a maternal domestic goddess for a one-on-one about her lifestyle site at the Martha Stewart American Made Summit. Her crisp and clean monochromatic ensemble matched the neutrality of the crafty host, her neighbor in the 'burbs – and presumably her idol. "That's the only woman that can creep up on my man and I would be okay with it," Lively joked of the domestic doyenne.
Most moms-to-be might invest in one decent coat they can actually button come third trimester. But the actress takes staying warm to a new level with another dramatic wool cloak (this one by Lindsey Thornburg) on a crisp fall day. Though it's heirloom quality, the coat is "inspired by tales of the clever raven as a mediator between life and death," which isn't exactly bedtime story-friendly.
RUNWAY GOWNS CUSTOM-TWEAKED BY THE DESIGNER
"I'm gonna amp up my style by wearing things that are stretchier," Lively told PEOPLE. But instead of the elastic-waist pants route, the star goes haute couture, opting for a sparkly tulle Michael Kors gown with some stretch to it. "It needed minimal alterations," Kors explained. "In fact, we just added a slip. Blake looked beyond beautiful in it."
MORE FOUR-FIGURE OUTERWEAR
If it's true that babies can pick up external cues while in the womb, Little Lively-Reynolds is surely absorbing expensive taste, simply by being cloaked in this $1,350 (yes, you read that right) Lindsey Thornburg poncho, which the actress accessorizes with knee-high heeled boots.
No Empire waist dresses or shapeless muumuus for this mama, who puts her new curves on full display in an insanely sexy, cleavage-flaunting Gucci gown. (Of course, the best part of this look is her arm candy, husband Ryan Reynolds.) Now, excuse us while we get back to our crippling envy.
She's said she "could spit out a litter of kids," but she starts by wearing a litter (of puppies) on her whimsical patterned separates. Normally, we'd have a hard time forgiving someone for sporting top-to-bottom canine-printed pieces, but if anyone can convince us that these Michelle Kim pants and matching top are chic, it's the former Serena van der Woodsen.
"With a new baby on the way there is so much to do!" Lively wrote in the Oct. 6 pregnancy announcement on her site. But even with everything on her to-do list, she hasn't let picking out interesting outfits and making unique layering decisions fall by the wayside. Case in point: her printed Michelle Kim skirt, checked Loup, mock turtleneck wool coat (also Michelle Kim) and Collina Strada cross-body.
How do you make a maxi designed for non-pregnant women work for your burgeoning bump? Hike it up! The Preserver eschews those mommy-to-be skirts with the big elastic panels and simply wears her Sam & Lavi high on her waist.
A TRIED AND TRUE FORMULA
Something tells us we'll be seeing a lot of this trick: Another hiked-up floral skirt effortlessly paired with stylish separates. This time there's a casually draped scarf involved, along with an "environmentally responsible" handmade striped T-shirt by Amour Vert and a Michael Kors Miranda drawstring bag.
