Australian swimmer loses daughter after cancer battle
Australia’s former world champion swimmer Tracey Wickham, 44, has lost her 19-year-old daughter Hannah to cancer. Her death came three years to the day that she first discovered the lump in her leg. Hannah was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive form of cancer known as Ewing’s sarcoma and despite going into remission several times, the cancer always returned.
Hannah’s dying wish was to marry her fiance, Tom O’Driscoll, whom she met in hospital when he was fighting his own cancer battle. The wedding was supposed to take place in 10 days time, but when it was apparent that Hannah was fading they rushed the ceremony to take place in her hospital room in front of 20 close family and friends. Tracey, obviously distraught, says:
Tracey also has a son, Daniel.
