Ashley Jones is going to be a mom!

The former The Bold and the Beautiful star is pregnant and expecting her first child, a son, with husband Joel Henricks in May, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“Becoming a mother has been a lifelong dream of mine. It seems surreal that it’s now happening,” Jones, 39, tells PEOPLE. “Although life as we know it will forever change, Joel and I can’t wait to meet this baby.”

Although the new addition will be Jones’ first baby, Henricks, an IT director of infrastructure, is already dad to 3½-year-old Huck, his son from a previous relationship — and the big brother-to-be couldn’t be more excited.

“Huck asks every few days, ‘Is the baby still in your tummy?’ ” says Jones. “He latched on to the notion of being a big brother immediately. Now, he’s just ready to put all this talk into action.”

She jokes, “Although he questions if the baby is still inside me, he’s quick to remind me that my belly is getting really big!”

Helping raise Huck has given Jones a glimpse into motherhood, but she admits the newborn stage will be an entirely new experience.

“The transition into becoming a family has been full of surprises and useful lessons. Huck was only 2 when I met him, so we journeyed through potty training and sleep training together,” she shares. “But I’ve been told nothing really prepares you for a newborn at home.”

Fortunately, other than the occasional late night due to her active baby boy, Jones has had a seemingly easy pregnancy. “I’m feeling amazingly well. Some days are easier than others. I know women that have had extreme morning sickness their entire pregnancy, so I feel blessed any complaints have been minimal,” she says.

“This kiddo loves to have dance parties while I’m trying to sleep, but that’s hardly a complaint.”

With two months to go until she welcomes her little guy, Jones, who’s currently appearing on General Hospital, is staying busy filming her daytime drama — and keeping her baby bump hidden on camera!

“I’m actually still taping General Hospital. I’ve loved working during pregnancy,” she shares. “I started taping General early December 2015, not knowing how long the storyline would last. Executive producer Frank Valentini has been wonderfully accommodating and supportive. I look forward to each new script from the writers.”

Jones’ next appearance on General Hospital begins airing March 22, and later this year she will star opposite Billy Burke in the independent film Good After Bad.
