A.J. McLean sings and dances for thousands of fans a night while he’s on tour with the Backstreet Boys — and it seems like his 23-month-old daughter Ava Jaymes has Daddy’s genes.

“She’s huge into dancing so we’re about to get her into dance class. Not sure where she gets that from,” he joked with PEOPLE at the Friends of Israel Defense Forces gala in Beverly Hills.

Ava may not be enrolled in dance class just yet, but she’s getting plenty of practice at home.

“We have a morning dance party,” says McLean, 36, adding that their early sessions also include his wife, Rochelle, and mother-in-law.

But Ava’s favorite artist for these dance parties might surprise you. No, it’s not dear ol’ dad.

“Right now she’s on a Rihanna tip. So after breakfast she says, ‘Riri,’ that means Rihanna. And then ‘moozik’ instead of music and we put the iPad on and listen to Apple TV,” he shares.

But McLean doesn’t mind the friendly competition. Ava is no different than most girls and loves her dad’s hit song, “I Want It That Way.”

“If we put on the ‘I Want It That Way’ video she is just glued to the TV,” the proud papa says.

McLean and his wife are thinking about expanding their dance troupe to a party of four in the near future. “My wife’s caught baby fever again so we’re talking … we’re thinking number two. I leave on tour in April so we’re thinking right around April we’ll make a baby,” he explains.

The new Backstreet baby will have a lot to live up to with Ava as a big sister.

“Our daughter is the perfect girl,” McLean raves. “She lets you know when it’s time to go to bed. She’ll walk you upstairs, knock on her crib, let’s go to bed. So, she’s the best. She’s the coolest kid.”
