Zayn Malik Quits One Direction, Fans Go Through the Five Stages of Grief

After weeks of brewing rumors, Zayn Malik confirmed on Wednesday that yes, he’s leaving One Direction. And One Direction fans, a.k.a. Directioners, confirmed that yes, they are absolutely devastated.

Thousands of young girls (and, we imagine, a handful of adults) immediately took to Twitter to express their shock, sadness and anger at the singer’s decision to live life as a “normal 22-year-old,” despite the fact that his statement on his departure read, “I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.”
