Just weeks after splitting with his girlfriend of 10 months, Selena Gomez, the 27-year-old “Starboy” star was spotted leaving Hadid’s New York City apartment Tuesday night.
“He is talking to Bella a lot and they’ve hung out too,” says an insider close to the singer, born Abel Tesfaye. “They are not back together. There are still feelings though. Abel never stopped loving Bella.”
The Weeknd and Hadid, 21, announced their split last November — almost exactly a year ago. “Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends.”
According to the insider, the couple’s relationship was “very loving” but also “challenging” because of their busy careers. “They might never get back together, but Abel seems happy to spend time with her again.”
The couple were first linked together in April 2015 when he asked her to be in the artwork for his album, Beauty Behind the Madness. “My motive was literally to work with her,” he said at the time. Hadid also starred in The Weeknd’s music video for his single, “In the Night.”
Their relationship was confirmed when they made their red carpet debut together at the 2016 Grammys. “It was a big night for him,” Hadid told Glamour in the summer of 2016. “He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy.”

It’s a fitting turn of events, considering that Gomez has been spotted out and about with her former flame, Justin Bieber. On Monday night the pair were spotted recreating an early date at Lake Balboa in Los Angeles, where they slurped on popsicles. Then on Wednesday they shared a rink side smooch at the “Sorry” singer’s hockey game.
According to a Bieber pal, the attention on them got “too crazy” and the “Sorry” singer “didn’t like the chaos.”
“Justin canceled his tour to take care of his mental health and he wants to continue to focus on this,” added the Bieber pal. “They agreed to stay more low-key.”
