Chloe x Halle Kick Off Super Bowl 2019 with Emotional Performance of 'America, The Beautiful'

Chloe x Halle just gave an emotional and riveting performance of “America, The Beautiful” ahead of the Super Bowl LIII kickoff.

The sisters, 20 and 18 respectively, took the field at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Los Angeles Rams are facing off against the New England Patriots.

They wore all black, glittery outfits (both by Styland) while serenading the crowd, visibly moved by the performance. The pair, who gained their fame through YouTube, treated most of the song as a duet, but they occasionally had solo moments.

Immediately afterward, Gladys Knight, dressed in head-to-toe white, serenaded the nation with the national anthem.

Chloe x Halle navigated any nerves they might have had beautifully — perhaps because they’ve been mentored by none other than Beyoncé, who headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2016.

“Being in the midst of having such a beautiful mentor like her, we were allowed to explore with our creativity, and we’re so thankful to her for providing her platform and always reminding us that you don’t have to dumb down your art for the world — you can keep creating new, innovative things and let the world catch up to you,” Halle told PEOPLE in March 2018 ahead of the release of their debut album The Kids Are Alright.

“Meeting Beyoncé was definitely one of our biggest fan-girl moments,” Halle continued. “I feel like once you’re comfortable around Beyoncé, you don’t really get starstruck anymore!”

Added Chloe: “She is just the best human being ever; she has the most incredible spirit. She is wonderful.”

Other performances during the 2019 Super Bowl will include Maroon 5, rapper Travis Scott and Outkast’s Big Boi.

The Super Bowl 53 is airing live from Atlanta on CBS.
