Man Suspected of Killing Rapper Nipsey Hussle Identified by Los Angeles Police
Nipsey Hussle was killed on Sunday after being shot multiple times on the street where his clothing store Marathon Clothing Company is located
Police have named a suspect, who remains at large, in rapper Nipsey Hussle‘s murder.
Late Monday night, just one day after Hussle was fatally gunned down in the parking lot outside of his store, Marathon Clothing Company, in Hyde Park — the Los Angeles Police Department released a statement asking the public’s help in locating suspect Eric Holder, 29.
“On March 31, 2019 around 3:20 p.m. three male adults were standing in front of a business in a strip mall in the 3400 block of West Slauson Blvd. The suspect walked up to the men and fired numerous shots at them. The victims were struck and fell to the ground,” the statement read.
“The suspect ran southbound through an adjacent valley to a waiting vehicle. The suspect entered the passenger side of the vehicle and fled the area. The vehicle is a 2016 Chevy Cruze, white four doors, CA license plate 7RJD742. The vehicle was driven by an unidentified female.”
“Two victims were transported to local hospitals and one refused medical treatment at the scene. One victim, Ermias Asghedom, known as Nipsey Hussle, died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained.”
“Detectives have worked tirelessly and are now asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect in this case.”
The LAPD shared more details at a press conference held Tuesday morning.
LAPD police chief Michel Moore stated that the crime did not appear to be gang related. “We believe this to be a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder,” he said.
Moore also added that anyone who aids the suspect will be charged with “harboring.”
The development comes just hours after hundreds of mourners found themselves running for their lives when chaos erupted at Hussle’s memorial outside of his clothing store.
At least six people have been injured, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department tells PEOPLE.
At this time, it is unknown how those people were injured, police say they were “possibly stabbed.”
Initial reports from the scene suggested people had been shot and some in the crowd believed they had heard gunshots prompting many to run. However, police say there is “no evidence of that.”
“It’s still a very fluid situation,” the LAPD spokesman tells PEOPLE.
The LAPD also spoke about the incident on Twitter writing, “Our men and woman are on scene and making every effort to protect everyone in attendance at the Nipsey Hussle vigil.”
“Reports of shots fired at the vigil do not appear to be accurate. We do have injured in the chaos and are attempting to restore order,” the LAPD tweeted.
In videos shared on Twitter, a stampede of people can be seen fleeing the parking lot where Hussle’s clothing store Marathon Clothing company is located in Hyde Park.
Hussle died on Sunday from gunshot wounds to both the head and torso, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed Monday. He was 33.
The “Double Up” rapper was shot in the parking lot outside of his clothing store.
“Paramedics were called and [Hussle who was born Ermias Joseph Asghedom] was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.,” the coroner said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
“Today, an autopsy was performed, and it was determined Asghedom died from gunshot wounds of the head and torso.”
“The manner of death was certified as a homicide,” the coroner added.
Hussle leaves behind his longtime love Lauren London, whom he dated for five years. The couple, who recently opened up about their romance to GQ, shared 2½-year-old son Kross.
Hussle was also dad to daughter Emani from a previous relationship.
