The biggest names in music are making appearances across five of New York's boroughs (and from home) for this year's socially distant installment of MTV's Video Music Awards. Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga lead the nominations list with nine — seven of which are for the duo's collab "Rain 0n Me." Following closely behind are Billie Eilish and The Weeknd with six each. Taylor Swift, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion also garnered multiple nominations.

This year, MTV added two categories honoring music created during the pandemic: best music video from home and best quarantine performance.
