Mariah Carey and James Packer 'Haven't Seen Each Other' Since Fight but Are 'Trying to Work It Out': Rep
On Thursday, multiple sources revealed to PEOPLE the singer and the Australian billionaire businessman split after Packer “needed a break.”
Now, a rep for Carey confirms the pair are on the rocks after their Greece vacation took a turn for the worse last month.
“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah,” says the rep in a statement to Entertainment Tonight.
“James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future.”
However, a rep for Packer denies this account to PEOPLE, saying, “This is simply untrue.”
Packer, 49, proposed to Carey, 46, with a 35-carat diamond engagement ring in her hometown of New York City in January, just months after they took their relationship public last September. (Which begs the question: What happens to the ring if they split?)
“James is all about business and making money. Some of Mariah’s eccentric ways, especially her spending habits, caused drama,” a source told PEOPLE about the breakup. Added an insider who knows the couple about Packer’s family: “They don’t like her at all and never have.”
Counters a Carey source, “James has not been in a mentally healthy place and has not been present for Mariah or her family. His behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah so she unfortunately had to leave him.”

According to a source close to the billionaire businessman, however, it’s “typical Mariah to just twist things that don’t sound good to her. They split because she has issues. James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy. To put her issues on James is ridiculous.”
The couple were last photographed together in Mykonos, Greece in late September. Though the diva said in June their wedding was coming together, a source told PEOPLE last month a wedding date had not yet been set.
