Kevin Federline 'Commends' Ex Britney Spears for Checking Into Wellness Treatment Facility
It is believed the former couple's sons are with Federline while Spears is seeking treatment
Britney Spears‘ ex-husband wishes her well.
Amid her father’s recent “life-threatening” health issues, the pop star decided to check in to an “all-encompassing wellness treatment” facility, a source exclusively told PEOPLE this week — and Kevin Federline “commends” her for it, Entertainment Tonight reported.
“Kevin commends Britney for recognizing that she needs to take a step back and that she is taking reasonable steps to dealing with her situation in a responsible way,” Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told ET. “He wishes everyone well.”
Kaplan didn’t immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Spears, 37, and Federline, 41, finalized their divorce in 2007 after nearly three years of marriage and welcoming two sons together — Sean Preston, now 13, and Jayden James, now 12. It is believed the boys are with Federline while Spears is seeking treatment.
The “Toxic” singer recently agreed to pay Federline “thousands more a month in child support” after months of court discussions.
Two months ago, Spears announced that she would be putting her Domination show — her second Las Vegas residency which was set to launch in February — on hold to support her father, Jamie, while he recovered from a “life-threatening” colon rupture.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” the singer wrote in an emotional tweet announcing her hiatus. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year so doing this breaks my heart.”
“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make,” she added. “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE at the time, Spears said she has a “very special relationship” with her family and wanted to be there for them, in the same way they have always been there for her — however, now she’s also focusing on her own health.

“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her,” a source told PEOPLE on Thursday. “He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”
Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, also showed support for the pop star’s decision to check into a wellness facility, sharing a sweet throwback photo of the pair on Instagram.
