Katy Perry and The Weeknd Grab Dinner Together in West Hollywood — But It Wasn't a Date
Katy Perry and The Weeknd dined together at Madeo in West Hollywood on Monday night
Two of music’s biggest names started the week on a high note.
Katy Perry and The Weeknd dined together at Madeo in West Hollywood on Monday night. The new American Idol judge, 33, was photographed outside the eatery bundled up in a knee-length camel-colored coat with matching heels. She also slung her handbag across her body.
Arriving separately, The Weeknd — born Abel Tesfaye — sported a casual look in a denim jacket over a hoodle, dark pants and black boots.
“It wasn’t a date — they were with a group of people and they arrived and left separately,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “They dined on pasta, pizza and steak for three hours. They had intense conversations and everyone seemed to have a great time.”
The Weeknd, 27, and his ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid are spending time together, but they haven’t rekindled their romance — yet.
Just weeks after splitting with his girlfriend of 10 months, Selena Gomez, the “Starboy” singer was spotted leaving the Victoria’s Secret model’s New York City apartment last Tuesday night.
“He is talking to Bella a lot and they’ve hung out too,” says an insider close to the star. “They are not back together. There are still feelings though. Abel never stopped loving Bella.”
The Weeknd and Hadid, 21, announced their split last November — almost exactly a year ago. “Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends.”
Aside from Perry, The Weeknd has company in his new four-legged friend.
“Handsome devil,” the singer captioned a photo of a Doberman Pinscher puppy on Instagram earlier this month.

Though Gomez has been spotted with ex Justin Bieber recently, insiders previously told PEOPLE that their rekindled friendship was not responsible for the “Wolves”singer and The Weeknd.
“It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them. It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch,” a source said. (In fact, she’s still wearing his sweatshirt.)
