Watch Katy Perry Get Grilled by a 7-Year-Old – and Then Duet with Her Adorable Interviewer
Little Poppy Browne asked Perry hard-hitting questions on topics like hula-hooping, gardening and snack preferences
Where does Katy Perry stand on the important issues? One reporter has finally gotten the truth from the pop star: yes, she’s a fan of cheese.
The “Swish Swish” singer sat down for a new interview with adorable 7-year-old Poppy, the daughter of W Magazine‘s features director Alix Browne. The wide-ranging chat covered everything from rollerskating skills to snack preferences and gardening habits.
Some key revelations? Perry’s favorite colors are pink, lavender and sky blue (Poppy’s are similarly pink, purple and blue). The star also shared that she sometimes chooses her ensembles based on how she’s feeling and that she gets lyrical inspiration “from watching everybody else.”
After Perry revealed that she’ll sometimes adorn herself with real food – like in her “Bon Appétit” music video – Poppy remarked, “That is sort of crazy.”
“Yeah, I know, I’m kind of crazy,” admitted Perry. “If you look up the word crazy in the dictionary, I’m like, kind of like to the left of it.”
The duo bonded over their puppies – although Poppy’s pets are much larger than Perry’s pooch Nugget – and hula-hooping prowess.
Perry also opened up about getting her musical start at just nine years old, the age she began singing lessons. “It just takes a lot of hard work and a lot of time,” she told her young fan.
The songstress also revealed that after all these years, she still has trouble shaking her nerves before performances.

“I’m usually pretty prepared for all of my performances but sometimes I still get butterflies,” she said. “I do get a little nervous just like you, especially when you’re trying to do something you’ve never done, like put out a new record that means a lot to you, you can get nervous.”
Eventually the sit-down turned into a sweet sing-along after Poppy revealed her favorite song is Perry’s own “Firework.”
Perry’s new album, Witness, is out Friday.
