Justin Bieber Put Wedding Plans on Hold to Focus on 'Getting Well Mentally': Source
"They will have a wedding ceremony with family and friends eventually," says a source
Justin Bieber is focusing on his mental health.
“They will have a wedding ceremony with family and friends eventually,” says the source. “However, right now, Justin’s focus is getting well mentally.”
The source adds: “Justin is doing okay. He is very focused and committed to getting help. Hailey is very supportive — Justin is very open about that Hailey does nothing but help him. He would feel even more lost without Hailey — he is very grateful. They are both focused on having a happy marriage.”
The on-off couple — who previously dated before a messy 2016 breakup — rekindled their relationship this summer, and Bieber proposed to Baldwin in the Bahamas on July 7. Bieber, 24, and Baldwin, 22, then quietly wed in a clandestine civil ceremony in New York City on Sept. 13, PEOPLE exclusively confirmed.
“He wants to be the best possible husband for Hailey,” a source close to Bieber previously told PEOPLE. “It’s one thing to have your issues when you’re single, but when you’re married, there’s two people’s happiness at stake. He’s working on himself so that he can be a good partner to her.”
Bieber himself insisted on seeking treatment, a decision which Baldwin fully supports. “This is not marriage counseling and this isn’t an indication that anything is wrong with the marriage,” the source says.
Earlier this week, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE exclusively that Bieber was seeking treatment for depression.
“Justin seems down and tired. He has been struggling a bit,” the insider said. “It has nothing to do with Hailey — he is very happy being married to her. It’s just something else that he struggles with mentally. He has good help around him and is receiving some treatment. He seems confident he will feel better soon.”
While Bieber’s counseling sessions — which have both spiritual and secular components from pastors and licensed professionals — haven’t been easy, the star is focused on becoming as healthy as possible.
“His emotions are raw, but he knows that his counseling — however painful — is what he needs as he moves forward with his life. He’s feeling very positive that he’s uncovering some root issues, and everyone is optimistic that this will help him figure out his next chapter
As Bieber gets help, wedding plans are still believed to be underway.
“Justin and Hailey both love tropical destinations. They are currently looking into options for a tropical wedding,” the Bieber source told PEOPLE in January, adding: “it seems it will happen in April, or May instead. … Although they are already married, they both want their wedding to be perfect. Hailey is working closely with their planner and figuring everything out. She is very excited to plan her wedding.”
