Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin 'Love the Idea' of Parenthood but Are 'Leaving the Timing Up to God': Source

The singer is working on his mental health, and looking forward to the day he becomes a dad

Justin Bieber is making strides as he addresses his mental health issues — and a source close to the singer tells PEOPLE that the 25-year-old “Love Yourself” singer wants to be ready for fatherhood.

“I have been looking, seeking, trial and error as most of us do,” he wrote on Instagram on Monday. “I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be,” he wrote. “Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health.”

The Canadian crooner — who began seeking treatment for depression in February — explained in the lengthy social media message that part of his desire to prioritize his mental health came from a desire to “sustain” his marriage to Hailey Baldwin and live up to the expectations he had created for himself as a future father.

“Right now, he’s ready to be a dad,” says the insider. “That’s what he wants to be. He knows that he has to get things figured out so that he can be the dad he wants to be. But that’s his focus. Being a dad is his dream right now.”

According to the insider, Bieber has made “big strides” in becoming mentally healthy.

“If you were to talk to Justin six months ago, and talk to him now, you’d see how much he has changed,” says the source. “He’s growing so much, he’s going from being a boy to being a man. What he wants is to be a man of integrity, a great husband, a fantastic dad, and a spiritual person. He’s making amazing progress.”

His decision to reveal his mental health struggles to fans began earlier this month, when Bieber shared an Instagram that he’d been “struggling a lot” and feeling “super disconnected and weird,” but hoped to bounce back soon.

Bieber’s note referenced the fact that he felt “unhappy” during his Purpose tour in 2017, which he ultimately canceled after 18 months.

But now, Bieber and Baldwin are looking to their future. “They love the idea of becoming parents,” the Bieber source says. “He’s going to be a great dad, and she’s going to be a wonderful mom. She’s really got her head on straight, and Justin has a new sense of clarity and purpose. They’re going to thrive as parents, when the time comes.”

And when will that time come? “They both believe that if it happens, it was God’s will,” says the source. “They’re leaving the timing up to God.”
