Jennifer Hudson is proving exactly why she’ll be a major threat to Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus for season 13 of The Voice.

The Grammy-winning artist showed off her vocal chops at Monday’s NBCUniversal Upfronts presentation, where she opened the event with a special, surprise medley from the 2006 film, Dreamgirls, for which she won an Oscar for portraying Effie White.

And PEOPLE has the exclusive footage from her rehearsal session.

To kick off the two-hour, company-wide affair at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Hudson belted out snippets of “One Night Only” and “I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.”

Hudson was front and center at the NBCUniversal Upfronts following last week’s announcement that the multi-hyphenate talent landed her own red chair on next season’s The Voice. “Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show,” said NBC Entertainment alternative and reality group president Paul Telegdy in a statement.

And she comes with serious Voice experience, winning her first season as coach on The Voice UK.

The mother of one got her start on a singing competition show, bursting on the scene during the third season of American Idol, where she finished in seventh place.

Hudson has already been a member of the NBC family. She starred in the network’s Hairspray Live! special in 2016.
