Imagine a group chat so exclusive it’s named “Squad” or better yet “Taylor Swift‘s BFFs.” Well if you’re Hailee Steinfeld, you don’t have to.

The actress-turned-singer keeps in touch with Swift and fellow squad members i.e. Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne, via WhatsApp group texts. “We try to [speak a lot],” Steinfeld, 19, told BBC Radio 1‘s Nick Grimshaw. “It’s so crazy being all over the world at the same time and rarely being in the same place at the same time. But it’s so much fun to stay in contact and find each other along the way and all get caught up.”

With each squad member’s busy schedule, Steinfeld shared that most of the get-togethers involve red carpets. “When we are all together it does feel like a big reunion, and it normally happens to be when we are all dressed up and look a lot nicer than we normally do, so it looks a lot cooler than it is,” she said.

Though each gal excels in varying Hollywood industries, one thing they all have in common is what it’s like to be in the spotlight. “It’s nice to have people that get what it is that you’re doing. I went through a period of time when some of my friends didn’t understand that what I was doing was more important than calling them back,” Steinfeld explained, adding, “So it’s nice to now have someone that understands and does the same thing that you’re doing.”

However, one woman not seeking an invite to Swift and Steinfeld’s squad is Demi Lovato. “I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body,” Lovato said in a recent interview with Glamour. “It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.”
