People Editorial Guidelines Updated on October 6, 2016 02:49 PM Share Tweet Pin Email They collaborated on one of the biggest singles of the year — “Don’t Let Me Down.” But if you ask Daya about her relationship with DJ duo The Chainsmokers, expect her to tease them just a little bit. “They’re weirdos — absolute weirdos,” the 17-year-old jokes with PEOPLE Now. The teen singer, whose debut album Sit Still, Look Pretty drops Friday, says she’s very close with the group and has no problem making fun of them. “They’re like brothers to me,” she explains. “We pick on each other… that kind of relationship. They’re the most genuine people. I love them so much — they’re great.” C Flanigan/FilmMagic. The Pennsylvania native adds she wouldn’t have wanted to collaborate on “Don’t Let Me Down” with anyone else. “Like, my first collaboration, my first big introduction to the music world? It was awesome it was them because they’re just the realest,” she gushes. “It’s so awesome to meet up with them on the road and do shows with them and everything.” Tim Mosenfelder/Getty So how did the collaboration come about? Well if you listen to Daya tell it, The Chainsmokers sought her out. “They came to me,” she says. “They always tell the story that I came to them, but really they came to me. They reached out to me like a year ago or so because we were both through Sony and we both have a connection there. They had both heard ‘Hideaway’ and then they reached out and I had been a fan of their music so it was a perfect match.” RELATED VIDEO: We go Bowling with Daya! As for future collaborations, Daya’s not exactly ruling out a return to The Chainsmokers — but she’s got her sights set out on someone else. “I’d love to collaborate with Chance the Rapper,” she says. “I think he’s so, so talented.” Sit Still, Look Pretty is out Friday.
