Cher has millions of fans worldwide. But the singer herself isn’t one of them.
In an interview with Maria Shriver that aired on Today Wednesday, the 70-year-old singer and actress said she’s “never satisfied” when she looks inward at herself.
“I’ve never really been in love with Cher,” she said. “She’s all right, but I’m not a huge fan. I’m not a Cher fan.”
The comments came as she looked back at her five-decade career and reflected on getting older.
“I just don’t know how to accept it,” said Cher, of her age. “I don’t want to either – but I don’t really know how to. I look in the mirror and I see this old lady looking back at me. And I have no idea how she got there!”
“If I put 70 candles on my cake, I would blow my brains out,” she joked.
She may be 70, but Cher isn’t slowing down anytime soon. She recently announced a new live show for 2017 — called “Classic Cher” — which will run from Feb. 8 – Feb. 25 at Las Vegas’ Park Theater at Monte Carlo before heading to the Washington, DC’s MGM National Harbor for three days in March.
“The older you are, the harder it is,” Cher said, of before. “[But] I didn’t want to be finished. I didn’t want to be through with singing and I knew that this would probably be the last time.”

“My voice is still really good,” she added. “I’m still active and running around. I can still fit in my costumes. So I thought that this was probably now or never.”
Performing allows both Cher and her fans to let go of the heavy things happening in the world.
“It’s kind of therapeutic what I do on stage,” she explained. “I think when you can take people’s minds off of everything, you give them this respite from the world and its problems and everything that’s going on. And it has this kind of lingering effect.”
She concluded: “The only thing I know is not to give up. I don’t know anything else.”
