WATCH: 'Britney Spears' Shaves Her Head and Marries 'Kevin Federline' in First Lifetime Biopic Trailer
"I'm not gonna say I was fine, cause I wasn't," Britney Spears, played by Natasha Bassett, says in Lifetime's Britney Ever After teaser trailer
Talk about chaotic.
The teaser begins with Bassett exiting a car as Spears and happily greeting the paparazzi, before cutting to the star’s unforgettable 2007 decision to shave her own head.
As Spears weds ex-Kevin Federline (Clayton Chitty), a voiceover says, “I’m not gonna say I was fine, cause I wasn’t.”
“Everything is just kind of this blur, you know, until you hit rock bottom,” Bassett says as Spears. “I want to be strong for my fans – they’re what keeps me going.”
Britney Ever After will follow Spears’ ascent from her Louisiana upbringing to stardom. It also stars Nathan Keyes as Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake, Matthew Harrison as Spears’ dad Jamie Spears, Nicole Oliver as her mom Lynne Spears, and Peter Benson as her manager Larry Rudolph.
The film does not have Spears’ “blessing,” Entertainment Weekly previously reported, and she did not contribute in any way.
Bassett, a 23-year-old Australian actress, recently said at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards in Los Angeles, according to the New York Daily News, that stepping into Spears’ shoes was “extremely traumatic.”

She elaborated, “It was traumatic having to experience through my eyes what she experienced.”
The role ultimately helped Bassett learn “how strong” Spears is. “Emotionally, the way she got through the constant pressures that she was faced with is admirable.”
Britney Ever After premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.
