John Legend is currently on his Darkness and Light tour, but on Sunday the singer jetted to Las Vegas, where he took the 2017 Billboard Music Awards stage for a superstar collaboration with Florida Georgia Line.

Mixing their country and soulful pop styles, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley joined Legend to perform a cover mashup of their hits “H.O.L.Y.” and “Surefire.” First to the stage was Legend, who sat before the audience behind his piano to perform his most recent single before quickly switching over to play the keys for Florida Georgia Line’s spiritual single.

“That’s epic for us, he’s one of our heroes and somebody we really look up to,” Hubbard said on E’s Live from the Red Carpet ahead of the show.

“Tyler actually got to write with him not too long ago and they hit it off and then it somehow came about, the universe just wanted it to happen,” Kelley added. “We found out through email and were like, ‘Of course we want to sing with John.’ Kinda stripped down, just us three on piano, our voices, it’s really really intimate. The fans are gonna love it and it sounds really good.”
