Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Memorial Park Vandalized with Swastikas and Pro-Donald Trump Graffiti
On Sunday, elected officials, community and faith leaders will come together to stand against hate at the memorial park
A New York City memorial park in honor of the late Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch was vandalized with graffiti of swastikas and the words “Go Trump” on Friday.
Playground equipment at the Adam Yauch Park in Brooklyn Heights was defaced with anti-semitic tagging amid ongoing anti-Donald Trump protests since the Republican nominee was elected the 45th president.
Yauch, known by his stage name MCA, died in May 2012 after a nearly three-year battle with cancer. He was 47. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, like his Beastie Boys bandmates Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, was Jewish.
City councilman Brad Lander tweeted on Friday that the graffiti “will be painted over tonight” and “NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force and @NYCParks staff [were] on-site immediately.”
In addition, Senator Daniel Squadron announced that the NYPD and Park Department are investigating the hate incident.
On Sunday, elected officials, community and faith leaders will come together to stand against hate at the memorial park.
