5 Seconds of Summer's Michael Clifford Is Engaged to Girlfriend Crystal Leigh
Congratulations are in order for Michael Clifford and Crystal Leigh!
The 5 Seconds of Summer lead guitarist popped the question to his girlfriend of three years during a stunning beachside sunset picnic on Friday.
The pair were celebrating their three-year anniversary at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort in Bali — the same place they began dating and shared their first kiss — when Clifford asked Leigh to marry him.
Opening up about the exciting news on his social media accounts, the musician, 23, explained that the Indonesian island held a special significance to the couple.
“I was lucky enough to ask the love of my life to marry me in the place it all began for us,” Clifford revealed alongside photos of the romantic moment.
“In the last 3 years she has helped evolve and shape who I am in ways I could never have imagined,” he continued. “I couldn’t ask for anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. I love loving you, Crystal. ❤️”
For the romantic moment, Clifford set up a tent in front of their villa, which he scattered with photos of the couple throughout their relationship milestones, including their first picture together, their first “I love you,” and their first anniversary.
He also played “Medicine” by The 1975 — the song that was playing during their first kiss in the same spot three years prior — when Leigh walked into the tent.
After she said “yes,” the pair celebrated with a dinner catered by acclaimed Australian Chef James Viles, who owns Biota Dining in Bowral, New South Wales — an acknowledgment to Clifford’s native land of Australia.
The couple was visiting the tropical island for Guess’ #DestinationGuess Bali series so their friends, who were also on the fashion trip, surprised Leigh after the big moment for an impromptu engagement celebration.
Leigh, who is a fashion influencer, wore a Guess Gabbie open-shoulder white lace dress and gold hoop earrings for the happy occasion.
For Clifford, the engagement comes after a successful year with 5 Seconds of Summer, who released their third album Youngblood.
Not only did the band sell one million albums in 2018, but they also reached more than one billion streams and topped the Billboard 200 — beating out Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s joint album Everything Is Love.

The album also came after four years of heavy touring for the band, who then spent a majority of 2017 off from the road. It was in that time that Clifford said he began to get serious with dating.
“For me, a lot of it was learning how to be in a relationship,” he told Billboard in June. “Up until then, I had never been in a proper relationship, one that was super authentic and honest.”
“When you’re on the road, you can get so caught up in this little bubble, so I wanted to learn to reflect and be honest in a relationship,” Clifford added.
