Even Julia Roberts sometimes takes a look at tabloids in the grocery store — and she’s ready to defend herself against the crazy rumors she sometimes reads about her life.
PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful Woman of 2017 sat down with editor-in-chief Jess Cagle for the magazine’s new cover story — and says she does her best to avoid reading gossipabout herself.
“I do believe that I don’t need to know every weird, mean, untrue, odd [tabloid claim] — ‘I only eat popcorn,’ or ‘My husband doesn’t love me unless I wear blue,’ ” Roberts, 49, says.

The Oscar winner admits she’s still surprised every once in a while when she sees headlines about herself at the supermarket.

“It does take a little bit of practice, but you’d be surprised,” she says. “I go to the grocery on a regular basis and it’s usually an uneventful experience. There is the odd occasion where I’m waiting and I’m looking around and I’m like, ‘What?!’ And turn to the man behind me and go, ‘Not true, sir!’ “
