Starring Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, Room tells the story of a mother and her 5-year-old son who are held captive for years in a small structure they refer to simply as “room.” Once they escape from their prison – and the only place Jack as ever known – he gets a chance to discover a much bigger room: the world. Not only does the film show a story of survival, but also the unbreakable bond between mother and son in the most unthinkable of situations. “I wanted him to feel safe,” Larson’s character explains of the life she created for her son while living in a backyard shed. “I wouldn’t have survived without him.” The heartwrenching drama, based on the 2010 novel by Emma Donoghue, won the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival’s coveted People’s Choice Award, as voted on by festivalgoers. Room hits theaters Oct. 16.
