How much are you willing to pay to see your favorite teen sleuth on the big screen?

Well, Veronica Mars fans have pledged to pay a lot more than the price of the movie ticket, popcorn and a soda combined to see Kristen Bell play the title character again.

After series creator Rob Thomas turned to fund-raising Web site, asking for $2 million to make a movie version of the cult TV hit, fans responded in a big way.

According to reports, Thomas and his star had their money in less than 12 hours. With almost 47,000 backers, they’ve raised more than $2.8 million.

“Hallelujah! It’s a green light my friends. I love you all, but particularly the donors among you,” Thomas, who had the blessing of Warner Brothers to raise the money for a Veronica Mars film, wrote on Twitter once the goal was reached.

Bell also Tweeted her appreciation (with a little sass to boot): “I love you guys. You are all SO spectacular. I am speechless,” she wrote, adding Wednesday, “dear pope: Im sorry VM fans stole ur thunder on ur 1st day. I mean,Im not really that sorry, but i thought it would be polite 2 say so. xo.”

So what will Thomas do with the extra money he’s collected? He has some ideas:

“Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make,” he wrote in his initial request for funds.

“A two million dollar fundraising total probably means cross words are exchanged at the class reunion. Three million? We can afford a full-on brawl. Ten million? Who knows… For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine! A Hobbit shows up! There s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray. We ll figure out something cool. Hey, if that total goes high enough, I ll bet the good folks at Warner Bros. will agree a sequel is a good idea.”
