Tom Cruise is known for his impeccable smile, but on Tuesday, one thing appeared to be missing as he flashed a mischievous grin on the set of his new movie.
The actor, 52, sported a blacked-out tooth for the new crime thriller Mena, which has started filming in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cruise, who plays a pilot in the 1980s-set film, was dressed for the era, wearing flared jeans and brown cowboy boots, with a loose, orange linen shirt and aviator sunglasses.
Cruise’s hair remained unkempt as he got into character, the disheveled look accompanying his missing lateral incisor.
Mena is inspired by true events, particularly, the saga of real-life pilot Barry Seal. Seal was a Trans World Airlines pilot who was recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the growing communist threat in Central America.
The pilot ended up transporting contraband for both the CIA and the deadly Medellin cartel. Much of the illegal and covert activity took place in Mena, Arkansas, where the film draws its name.
The Doug Liman-directed film is set to hit theaters in January 2016.
