If there’s one movie that can get celebrities to show their true fandom colors with the rest of the world, it’s Star Wars.
Monday night’s premiere of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought a slew of A-list stars to the red carpet, and more important, one of the first screenings of the film.
Matthew McConaughey, Bryce Dallas Howard, Josh Gad, Sofia Vergara, Tony Goldwyn, Zach Braff, Dane Cook, Rainn Wilson and many more stepped out for the premiere – and of course they took to social media to post pictures of the epic event.
And while some celebrities kept to their typical red carpet attire, others decided to go all out, dressing in classic Star Wars gear.
But the Office‘s Wilson, 49, made for good competition dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi with his son Walter, who was also in costume.
Vergara, 43, also channeled a famous Star Wars character while getting dressed for the night, wearing her hair in classic Princess Leia-esque buns.
The Modern Family actress attended the premiere with her new hubby, Joe Manganiello by her side. And while Manganiello kept his look classic in a tailored blue suit, don’t count him out just yet. He kept in the spirit of the night with Star Wars inspired cuff-links.
But just because the other celebs in the crowd didn’t go in costume, that didn’t stop them from going nuts on social media.
Howard, 34, cozied up between two stormtroopers for the night while Gad, 34, (who snapped up a storm) proudly showed off his golden ticket to the premiere.
McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves, also found herself wedged between two stormtroopers, but once inside the theater, she kept close to her family, sitting with her actor husband and two children, Levi and Vida.
During the screening, “Levi and Matthew were happily munching on popcorn,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Braff, 40, even had a celebrity sighting of his own, as he managed to snap a picture of director J.J. Abrams posing next to George Lucas on the red carpet – and he’s claiming the photo credit with pride.
While talking to reporters, Lucas said he never imagined the kind of impact Star Wars would have on the film industry.
“I didn’t think it would be this big when it started,” Lucas told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that the films are really about “families.”
“It’s a about what one generation leaves behind and the next generation has to deal with,” he said.
As for Braff, once inside, he sat next to his “bae,” former Scrubs costar Donald Faison.
Scandal‘s Goldwyn posed on the red carpet with his wife Anna before traveling to “hyper space!”
And Cameron Boyce looks to be practicing his audition for the next film, striking his best battle pose (but sans lightsaber, of course).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters Dec. 18.
