Is this a Jedi mind trick?

The hotly anticipated new poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted over the weekend, instantly ratcheting up fan fervor as the film’s Dec. 18 opening date creeps closer – and ahead of the release of the film’s full-length trailer Monday night.

But one person was conspicuously missing from the one-sheet: Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, whose absence stuck out more glaringly than an obliterated Alderaan in space.

Indeed, other Star Wars vets scored some plum face time – including returning stars Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, plus trusty sidekicks R2-D2, C-3PO and Chewbacca – along with franchise newcomers Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and John Boyega (who posted a short clip teasing the debut of the full trailer.)

Hamill, however – whose addition to The Force Awakens cast was announced with thunderous fanfare – remains gnawingly M.I.A. from the poster.

The omission is a telling one, considering that the actor’s name is prominently listed in the poster’s credits, Luke Skywalker got a clear shout-out in the teaser trailer, and Hamill was snapped during the cast’s much-hyped first table read, in April 2014 in London.

Star Wars devotees promptly went into overdrive, theorizing about Luke’s whereabouts.

Has his appearance changed? Does he actually go missing in the film itself? Is he still being held up in an X-Wing hangar somewhere trying to explain his massive Star Wars flub?
