While Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock haven’t appeared together onscreen in more than a decade, it doesn’t mean their film future as costars is kaput.

Reeves, 52, recently revealed to PEOPLE that he’s actively looking for a film project that would reunite him with his Speed costar.

“Oh my gosh, yeah I’ve been trying,” the John Wick: Chapter 2 star said when asked about future film collaborations with Bullock. “I’ve been looking for [film projects] with Sandra — not with her, but for us.”

The two stars have remained close friends since they starred in the hit 1994 thriller, but the last time they worked together on a film was in the 2006 romantic drama The Lake House.

So how is Reeves’ search going for that perfect Reeves-Bullock onscreen reunion?

“I haven’t found anything yet,” he admits. “I’ve been trying!”

Our fingers are crossed he finds the perfect project soon. In the meantime, Reeves reveals he’s happy returning to the big screen as brooding assassin John Wick in the film’s sequel.

“It’s really cool to have a chance to have been a part of and to make John Wick: Chapter 2,” he says. “I love the character and I think the director did a great job opening the world, the underworld, the new characters and the action. I’m really excited about having a film I love so much coming out to the world.”

John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters on Friday.
