Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth Are Not Legally Married, Local Officials Confirm
The Clark County of Nevada confirmed as much in a tweet on Wednesday, writing, “Our records show no marriage license for Shia LaBeouf & Mia Goth. A commitment ceremony was performed #Vegas.” A photo from the ceremony was included in the tweet.
Asked why the clerk’s office had confirmed the news, the office tweeted, “We were getting media inquiries & it’s a matter of public record.”
The actor and his longtime girlfriend appeared to get hitched in a Las Vegas wedding chapel presided over by an Elvis Presley impersonator on Monday, TMZ reported. The website also released livestream video and pictures from the seemingly impromptu ceremony, showing LaBeouf in a dark suit with white sneakers dancing inside the chapel with Goth, who wore a lace wedding dress.
It remains unclear whether the “commitment ceremony” was real or Labeouf’s latest performance art piece. A rep for LaBeouf has not commented.
Labeouf and Goth first met in 2012 while filming Lars von Trier’s NC-17 drama Nymphomaniac: Vol. II, and Goth later appeared in a music video LaBeouf directed in 2014.
The ceremony comes after a roller-coaster year for the young couple, which included a public altercation in Germany that was caught on camera last summer.
But things seemed to be looking up for LaBeouf and Goth’s relationship when they were spotted sharing a kiss in the middle of a Los Angeles crosswalk back in January.
Recently, LaBeouf, 29, appeared in the thriller Man Down alongside Kate Mara, and has also taken part in a series of bizarre art installations, including one project in which he rode an elevator for 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the London-born Goth has appeared in Everest alongside Josh Brolin, and recently starred in the horror film A Cure for Wellness with Dane DeHaan.
