Sexy, Shirtless Michael B. Jordan on Creed and Why Everyone Loves an Underdog
Talk about getting into fighting shape.
One look at Creed star Michael B. Jordan‘s buff boxer bod makes it clear he did not pull any punches when it came to training for his role in the latest installment of the Rocky series. But according to Jordan, the dedication to creating his character Adonis Creed was more about bringing the underdog story to life and paying homage to Rocky than it was about having perfect abs.
“Everybody loves an underdog story,” Jordan says in a special featurette “A Legacy Reborn” for the film, exclusive to PEOPLE. “If you can reach deep down and overcome those obstacles, that’s what it’s all about.”
The extended nearly three-minute preview for the film also features brief commentary from co-star and Rocky creator/star Sylvester Stallone, director Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and leading lady Tessa Thompson Selma.
“The impression the character has left is confounding, it really is,” Stallone says of his character Rocky Balboa’s legacy. “I come back to Philadelphia (Rocky’s hometown) and realize that this city actually embraces the character in a way that I could have never imagined.”
One thing Stallone can imagine and empathize with however, is all the work Jordan put into looking and feeling his up-and-coming boxer part, which is on full display in a series of sizzling new stills taken during production on Creed.
While Jordan has already proven his shirtless selfie game is strong, there is a certain sheen and definition in these professional photos that indicates a literal level of blood, sweat and tears. We dare you not to swoon.
Creed is in theaters now.
