See Johnny Depp and Jude Law in First Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Trailer
Above is the first action-filled trailer for the Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The footage suggests just what the film’s producers have teased: A darker and more expansive storyline that introduces several new characters and settings. And yet, there’s also a return to the familiar, with a scene set at Hogwarts. Yet there’s very little of the film’s titular villain Gillert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) — who we see being transported after what we imagine is a rough stint in a wizarding prison, with long hair and gaunt skin, and being guarded by two wand-holding aurors.
“I can’t move against Grindelwald; it has to be you,” Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) tells Newt (Eddie Redmayne) ominously.
Here’s a closer look at Grindelwald, who clearly looks rather different than the last time we saw him:
The film also released a poster with very stern looking Newt along with Dumbledore, who’s guarding his back:
The second of a planned five tales shifts the action from New York to Paris, as Newt teams with his favorite Hogwarts professor Dumbledore to hunt down the nefarious wizard Gillert Grindelwald. The film also introduces several new characters (such as Newt’s ex-love Leta Lestrange, played by Zoë Kravitz) along with bringing back familiar faces from 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them — like Newt’s American love interest Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), and Queenie’s muggle romantic interest Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler).
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be released Nov. 16, 2018.
