Sarah Hyland is being swept off her feet – literally!

The Modern Family star and her boyfriend Dominic Sherwood indulged in a very public display of affection on the red carpet at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere Monday night.

Hyland’s British beau wrapped one arm around the actress and dipped her backward as the two shared a few kisses in front of the cameras.

The couple, who first stepped out together in March and have been open about their sweet romance ever since, are both fans of the franchise.

“I love Star Wars,” Hyland, 25, told PEOPLE at the premiere. “I was introduced to it early on, so I don’t even remember exactly how old I was. I’m a fan of the originals though. They are my favorite.”

Carrie Fisher for me was carrying the torch from Katharine Hepburn on into the generation that I grew up watching,” Hyland continued. “I love, love, love women like that. She’s a kick in the pants, man – still to this day. I love her so much. … I love people like Debbie Reynolds and Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn and all those fantastic women. I think Carrie Fisher’s just a part of that as well. I just think it’s so great.”

As for Sherwood, he would call himself “somewhere in between” a super-fan and a casual fan.

“I wouldn’t camp out. I’m not that guy,” Sherwood, 25, told PEOPLE. “But I’m definitely not a casual fan. You could ask me stuff and I would know, but I’m definitely not the crazy, trying to build my own lightsaber at home fan.”

According to the couple, Hyland just finished decking out their place with Christmas decorations.

“I’ll go out and do something and the whole house looks like a Christmas festival,” Sherwood said, while Hyland explained that her living room is “kind of a winter wonderland” right now.

“I have, like, a flocked Christmas tree. It’s all like silver and white and lavender. It’s an interesting, different take on Christmas, but I like it,” she added.
