"It's sort of disgusting," Salma Hayek tells PEOPLE of her secret recipe
There may not be a fountain of youth, but Salma Hayek says she’s discovered a drink that comes pretty close.
The ageless beauty, 48, recently turned heads when she walked the red carpet for her new film Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet in Los Angeles and in this week’s PEOPLE she reveals her secret to looking so young.
“Right now I am doing something that I’m really loving. It is called bone broth! It’s sort of disgusting,” she admits. “You take a bunch of bones from a cow and you slow cook them for many, many hours.”
Hayek then adds in a tablespoon of apple cider and drinks a cup a day of the bone broth mixture.
“It’s full of gelatin and fat and has bone marrow and I think it is very good to keep yourself young,” she says. “If you do the right fat, I think that is the key.”
She’s quite impressed with the results.
“It helps to restructure the tissues for your skin, you hair and your nails. It’s full of collegian.”
It’s also helped her avoid using Botox, which she says she’s never tried. “I’m afraid of it,” she says.
The actress-producer also shuns conventional exercise routines and says you won’t find her on a treadmill.
“I don’t do cardio,” she says. “I mean I didn’t do it when I was young and I’m not going to start jumping now. I know it’s good for you and I should but I like yoga.”
As to who she thinks looks great in Hollywood, she points to a youthful Tom Cruise adding, “He must be doing my bone broth.”
