With the Screen Actors Guild Awards just days away, the Oscars loom ever closer.

Since the SAG Awards involve actors honoring actors, do the winners of the award show have an influence on the artists who take home the gold statue at the Academy Awards?

Like most awards shows, the Oscars are often full of surprises. However, what happens the night of the SAG Awards does serve as an indication of how Academy members will vote. Why? Many SAG voters are also Academy members, and when it comes to the Oscars, the Academy acting branch dominates the votes.

The official pre-show, “People, Entertainment Weekly and TNT Red Carpet Live: 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards,” will livestream beginning at 5:30 p.m.ET/2:30 p.m. PT on PEOPLE.comEW.comtntdrama.com/sag-awards and sagawards.org, in addition to being broadcast live in Times Square.

Best Actor and Actress

The SAG Award and Oscars acting nominees have had some correlations in the past, such as Reese Witherspoon who won both the Oscar and SAG Award for her role as June Carter Cash in 2006’s Walk the Line. Last year, Gary Oldman took home both prizes for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

Emma Stone also won the two honors in 2017 for her performance in La La Land.

There are differences, though. In 2016, Idris Elba took home the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for Beasts of No Nation, but months later Mark Rylance took home the Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for Bridge of Spies.

So what does this mean for the best film of the year?

Best Picture

Spotlight took home both the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture and the Best Picture Oscar in 2016.

Academy Award voters sang a different tune in 2017 when the Best Picture prize went to Moonlight, despite Hidden Fences taking home the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

And while The Help may have won the 2012 SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, the Best Picture Oscar went to The Artist.

The SAG Awards do differ greatly when it comes to the Oscars for the best picture prize: namely, the SAG Awards only nominate about five motion pictures, while the Oscars nominate up to 10.

The 2019 SAG Awards will air live at 8 p.m. ET on both TBS and TNT this Sunday.
