Crazy Rich Asians was such a huge hit that even one of the biggest movie stars in the world was mad about not getting a call
Crazy Rich Asians was such a huge hit — so it’s no wonder one of the biggest stars in the world wishes he was in it.
Director Jon M. Chu revealed on the 2019 SAG Awards red carpet that he got a call from Dwayne Johnson after the movie’s huge success. And while Johnson, 46, was happy for his friend, he also had some questions about the cast list.
“The Rock did call me — he was mad that I didn’t call him for it,” Chu told Access Hollywood. “He was like, we’re so proud, blah blah blah, why didn’t you call me for this?”
The two worked together when Chu directed Johnson in 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
- The official pre-show, People, Entertainment Weekly and TNT Red Carpet Live: 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards, will livestream beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT on PEOPLE.com, EW.com, tntdrama.com/sag-awards and sagawards.org, in addition to being broadcast live in Times Square.
But Crazy Rich Asians star Ronnie Chiang wasn’t as thrilled about the idea of Johnson joining the cast.
“The Rock is in like every single movie. Hey Dwayne, take a seat for one movie. Can you do that, for one movie? Can you give us our one thing?” Chieng joked to the camera, before calling Johnson out if he was upset about it.
“Anytime — let’s go rumble,” Chieng said.
The 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards air live on TNT at 8 p.m. on Jan 27.
