Robert Downey Jr. Dons Tigger Costume to Cheer Up Sick Fan – and Invites Him to Captain America: Civil War Premiere
The little boy, named Daniel, has cystic fibrosis and idolizes the actor, according to his mother
Tiggers certainly are wonderful things.
After Vicky Keyte reached out to Robert Downey Jr. about her son’s difficult life with cystic fibrosis, the actor responded accordingly – with a silly photo and an awesome invitation.
Downey put on a Tigger (the animated tiger from children’s classic Winnie the Pooh) onesie and stuck his most ferocious pose to cheer up Daniel, 7, over the weekend.
“Mr. Stark here. This is for Daniel (@envy_coatings) who was having a rough day recently,” the star wrote on Instagram. “When I’m in the dumps, I’ve found this little getup to be helpful. P.S. Would you like to come to the LA premiere of Captain America: Civil War as my guest? If so, have your people call my people. All the best.”
The Iron Man actor’s heartwarming gesture came after Daniel’s mother detailed an incident on her own Instagram that left the little boy feeling down.
“@robertdowneyjr This is my son Daniel and he has cystic fibrosis, he is seven years old and wants nothing more to meet his idol Robert Downey Jr (aka iron man) as he has managed to get past the bullies he faces from day to day by telling them the he too has a extra special port in his chest much like iron man has his arc reactor,” Keyte wrote. “I am sharing this in hope that mr stark (as Daniel calls him out of the suit) could find a way to contact me on here as Daniel could really do with a little lift at the moment after a child at school has told him that all children with cf die.”
The worried mom added that Daniel’s hospital stay was “starting to take its toll” and a message from Downey could cheer him up.
After receiving the 50-year-old’s reply, Keyte took to Instagram to update her followers and express her gratitude toward Downey.
“We physically can not believe it and can’t ever imagine a way to thank everyone enough,” she wrote. “I will keep everyone updated on the build up to the big day on Daniels progress and his day to day going ons and of course his tuxedo fitting that he has asked for today as he wants to fit in like a real star.”
She added that Downey’s photo left her a “blubbering wreck.”
It’s safe to say Daniel was overjoyed at the prospect of meeting his favorite Avenger next year (Captain America: Civil War hits theaters in May 2016).
In a clip Keyte later posted to the photo-sharing website, the little boy squealed excitedly as he romped around on a couch.
“@robertdowneyjr I think someone might be a little excited,” she wrote.
