The dystopian YA adaptation premieres Aug. 15

At only 17 years old, Odeya Rush is poised for stardom: Her biggest movie yet, The Giver, comes out next month, and the dystopian YA adaptation already has legions of fans.

As Fiona, the Israel-born actress holds her own against Hollywood heavyweights Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes – plus up-and-coming heartthrob Brenton Thwaites.

PEOPLE hosted a live Twitter chat with Odeya on Wednesday night, touching on everything from the audition process to what Taylor Swift did on set.
