“I’ve been eternally single and I think I like it a little bit too much.” Wilson told reporters on Wednesday, joking that, “I need to be more open to the possibilities of love.”
In the film, Wilson plays the role of Robin, whom she describes as “a wild single girl living in New York City” who “loves to party and dance up a storm in ‘da clubs!’ ”
Dakota Johnson costars in the romantic comedy as Wilson’s best friend. “While my character is fiercely independent, Dakota’s character has just come out of a long-term relationship and is showing all the signs of co-dependency,” Wilson previously explained. “Robin takes Alice under her wing, so to speak, and teaches her how to be single in the Big Apple.”
True to her character, Wilson says her own independent nature has led her down the path of singledom. “I know what my problems are – I’m very independent and I always have been.”

Part of that independent spirit was passed down from her mother. “She’s like, don’t have kids too young and all this because it will ruin your life. So she’s like, go out and travel and do stuff before you do all of that.”
But with her career taking off, Wilson says she isn’t opposed to looking out for the right guy. “I’m at the point where things are going so well, that I’m like trying to like look for the right person. Just haven’t found him, in Hollywood, surprise, surprise.”
While she’s not sure exactly who the right person will be, she definitely knows what he won’t be: “I don’t like smoking. There’s something about smoking, I’m like, no,” she says.
“And then maybe like lying. When they say they didn’t have a fiancé, and then two mates supported that. And I find out a few months later they did, in fact, have a fiancé back in the hotel. That’s a bit bad.”
How to Be Single hits theaters Feb. 12.
