Fans of the 37-year-old Golden Globe-winning actor may be a little surprised to find out he has a younger twin brother, Sami Malek. The actor brought Sami to the 2019 Golden Globe Awards where he ended up winning for best actor in a motion picture, drama. He also has a sister who is a doctor. While the two aren’t seen together frequently in public, the Mr. Robot actor opened up about his brother, a school teacher, in a hilarious 2015 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “We were troublemakers as kids. We did some bad stuff,” Malek explained at the time, adding his brother once asked him to switch places while they were college students. “He calls me one day, I had just gotten back from theater school — we went to different colleges — and he calls me in a panic, saying, ‘Hey, do you know a Greek monologue from a Greek tragedy?'” the actor recalled. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course, I’ve just been doing this for four years.’ He goes, ‘Listen, I need you to come down to my university’ — a major American university in Los Angeles — he goes, ‘I need you to do this for my class, it’s going to get me the points I need to get me my degree. I’m short on these units, she’s offering points if anybody comes in and does this monologue.'” Malek said he agreed and joked he “was born to do this” as a fully-qualified actor. “So I make it to the lecture hall, [the professor] pulls me into the lecture class. I deliver this monologue in front of the entire lecture hall and I get a few applause, people dig it,” the actor explained. I’ve watched you this whole year.’ So she pulls me out of the class… and goes, ‘How did you learn how to do that?'” Malek said. “I go, ‘Um, it’s just a hobby.'” Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic He continued, “And then she looks at me and says, ‘Well, listen I have a class in about 30 minutes, can you come back and do it for them?’ I go, ‘Did I get the points that I’m going to need to pass the class and get my degree?’ She goes, ‘Yeah, you got the points.’ I go, ‘My car’s parked in the red, I gotta go!'” There’s Now a Sing-Along Version of Bohemian Rhapsody Coming to Theaters Malek’s early experience in performing paved the way for the high-profile roles he would eventually land, namely as Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot and as Freddie Mercury in the box office hit Bohemian Rhapsody. Bohemian Rhapsody has grossed more than $800 million worldwide.
