With Lauren Conrad‘s best-selling novel L.A. Candy set to become a movie, Hollywood casting directors will be looking for a leading lady to play Jane Roberts, the 19-year-old heroine of Conrad’s book who moves to Hollywood and ends up the star of her own reality show.

Although the character is a lot like Conrad, a source told PEOPLE that the former star of The Hills is not interested in the part.

“She would never star in it because she doesn’t want to be an actress,” the source said. “She spent so long on TV . . . [She] would love to produce.”

That leaves the door wide open for a young Hollywood starlet to step into a fun, fashionable and romantic role!

May we suggest: Melrose Place‘s Katie Cassidy, New Moon‘s Dakota Fanning, Hotel for Dogs star Emma Roberts or Gossip Girl‘s Taylor Momsen for the part?
