Spanish bombshell Penélope Cruz resorted to some highly unusual methods to get in the mood for her sexy dance number in her upcoming film Nine.

“The musical number had to be sexy,” she told costar Marion Cotillard in the December/January issue of Interview. “And thinking about the Pink Panther would help get me in the mood … When I was climbing the ropes to the ceiling, all I could think about was the Pink Panther.”

The actress explains her choice of inspiration for the role of Carla, a film director’s Italian mistress in the upcoming flick: “I think she’s a little bit goofy – not that she tries to be funny, but something is a little bit off about her.”

And even more surprising admission? Cruz, who dates fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem, says that despite her reputation as an on-screen siren, she isn’t always self-confident. “I really think insecurity is something that comes with being an actor,” she says. “To be an actor, you need to have an ego, but then, your ego is your worst enemy.”
