Penélope Cruz‘s father, Eduardo Cruz, has died at age 62.

The father of four died early Thursday morning from a suspected heart attack at his home in La Manga in Southeast Spain, where he lived with his second wife, Carmen Moreno.

Penélope, 41, was on her way back to Spain early this morning after her father’s sudden death.

The Oscar winner was filming the Ben Stiller-directed comedy Zoolander 2 abroad when she received the sad news and made immediate plans to return to Spain.

Her TV actress sister Monica also canceled a planned promotional appearance.

Eduardo suffered heart problems in 2012, when Penélope visited him in the hospital in the naval city of Cartagena near La Manga.

Pen lope, who has not yet commented on his death, had a close relationship with her father, often bringing him to movie premieres. Last year he visited her on the set of her film Ma Ma.

Eduardo, who had two daughters and a son with his ex, Encarna Sanchez, remarried in April 2014. He and wife Carmen have a 3-year-old daughter named Salma.
