Watch Taron Egerton and Elton John Sing 'Tiny Dancer' Together at Oscars Viewing Party
Taron Egerton plays the legendary rocker in the upcoming biopic Rocketman
With Bohemian Rhapsody newly minted with four Oscars, it’s time for the Elton John music biopic Rocketman to take center stage.
On Sunday night, at the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party, the singer and the actor who plays him in the film, Taron Egerton, joined each other on stage to perform John’s iconic song, “Tiny Dancer.”
Throughout the performance, John, 71, accompanied Egerton on the piano. Egerton, 29, showcased his impressive voice — but only agreed to the live performance if John was going to join him on stage, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The pair looked completely in tune with one another, giving a beautiful show that was met with cheers, and no doubt gave fans another glimpse into Egerton’s performance in the film.
“The thing about playing someone so beloved, all we can do is give a heartfelt interpretation of his life and his music,” Egerton previously said about playing John.
And according to Rocketman producer Giles Martin, “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.’”
Rocketman, directed by Dexter Fletcher, looks back on John’s life from his beginnings as a shy piano prodigy to his global success as a music superstar. It began filming last June and also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Jamie Bell and Richard Madden,
You can see it in theaters May 31.
