Inside the Oscar Afterparties: From Melissa McCarthy's Outfit Change to an Emotional Lady Gaga
Winners and stars celebrated the end of awards season at Oscars afterparties
Rami Malek celebrated his big night at the 2019 Oscars with quite the bottle of champagne.
The Bohemian Rhapsody Best Actor winner, 37, made his way to the Governor’s Ball after picking up his trophy where he celebrated with a shower of champagne. Malek grabbed one of the large bottles of Piper-Heidsieck Rare and sprayed it all around the room as his Oscar was engraved with his name.
Malek was in high spirits just hours after he took a tumble off the Oscars stage after the show ended. Video showed Malek accidentally fall to the ground as the audience was clearing out, and paramedics were pictured attending to him. But the actor didn’t seem to be seriously hurt as he hit multiple parties after the show.
Also celebrating in the engraving room was Lady Gaga, 32, who picked up Best Original song along with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. The foursome were still jubilant after their big win, with Gaga looking emotional as she waited for her Oscar.
Another big winner enjoying her moment was The Favourite’s Olivia Colman, who took home a surprise Best Actress win. The British actress, 45, was jubilant at the Governors Ball as people congratulated her left and right. She told PEOPLE that her hilarious and heartfelt Oscar speech was not planned.
“No, not at all. It was rubbish, really!” Colman said as she still looked shocked at her win.
Over at the Fox party, her Favourite costars Nicholas Hoult and Joe Alwyn held court at their table. The duo were later joined by Alwyn’s girlfriend Taylor Swift, who has been making the rounds at award show afterparties this season to support Alwyn.
The 10-time Grammy winner and Alwyn stayed close at their table as they were surrounded by heavy security and catching up with their table mates. Swift even got up and danced to a song by The Killers during the night.
A-Listers also made their way to the famed Vanity Fair afterparty, where dozens of celebs posed for glam pictures on the red carpet. Newlyweds Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas looked in love as they played around while photographers flashed their cameras.
Another couple hamming it up was Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone, who showed up to the afterparty wearing matching Adidas tracksuits.
Joining Chopra Jonas and Jonas on the newlywed train were Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, who walked their first carpet together after their surprise wedding in December. The two showed off their wedding rings as they held each other close while taking pictures.
But the biggest moment of the night belonged to Selma Blair, who walked her first carpet since revealing her MS diagnosis in fall 2018. The actress wore a colorful gown with a flowing cape that she threw in the air for pictures as she leaned on a cane to walk.
The 91st Academy Awards aired live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
