Believe it or not, Octavia Spencer continues to give pies as gifts — even after that infamous scene in The Help that would make most people think twice about accepting such a present.
The 46-year-old actress, who won an Oscar for her role in the 2011 film as a hotheaded maid who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, admitted during a recent episode of The Jess Cagle Interview that serving Bryce Dallas Howard‘s villainous character chocolate pie with a special ingredient was a highlight of her career.
“It was hard because as a person, that is the last thing I would ever want to do, to do anything to anybody’s food,” Spencer tells PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly‘s editorial director. “But to somebody that awful, that mean, that hateful, it is the best revenge and the most fun I’ve ever had in any given moment on a set.”
Spencer says she downplayed the moment on screen, but it still affected her view on the dessert in real life.
“I’ve got to tell you, I don’t look at chocolate pie the same way,” she said.
However, Spencer admits that she still gives out pies as gifts. Although rest assured, she doesn’t make them herself — and she sticks to the traditional flavors.
“It’s a little variety,” she says. “It’s buttermilk, sweet potato and chocolate pie.”
