The Nightmare Before Christmas Turns 25! All the Actors Behind Your Favorite Voices in the Movie
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Twenty-five years after Tim Burton produced The Nightmare Before Christmas, the film is still considered a Halloween classic that has enchanted generations with its imagination and wonder. Here are all the voice actors behind the film that continues to live on with every generation.
Jack Skellington — Chris Sarandon
Jack Skellington, known as the “Pumpkin King” of Halloween Town, was brought to life by actor Chris Sarandon for his speaking voice, and composer Danny Elfman for his singing voice.
Sally — Catherine O’Hara
Catherine O’Hara portrayed Sally, a rag doll creation of Dr. Finkelstein, and Jack’s love interest. Sally uses poisons to liberate herself from Finkelstein’s captivity and has psychic powers that warn her about bad things to come. O’Hara can also be seen in another Burton film, Beetlejuice.
Oogie Boogie — Ken Page
Ken Page voices the villainous bogeyman of Halloween Town with a passion for gambling.
The Mayor of Halloween Town — Glenn Shadix
Shadix plays the Mayor of Halloween Town with wild mood wings that cause his head to spin between his “happy” and “sad” faces. Shadix also worked with Burton on Beetlejuice.
Dr. Finkelstein — William Hickey
Hickey voices the mad scientist and creator of Sally in a role reminiscent of Dr. Frankenstein, the original creator of the monster in the horror classic.
Lock — Paul Reubens
Voiced by Paul Reubens, Lock is part of Oogie Boogie’s henchmen alongside Shock and Barrel. Reubens starred in Burton's Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985).
Shock — Catherine O’Hara
O’Hara also voices Shock, one of the trick-or-treaters working for Oogie Boogie. Shock, along with friends Lock and Barrel, loves to make trouble.
Barrel — Danny Elfman
Elfman also pulled double duty voicing Barrel, the final member of Oogie Boogie’s henchmen alongside Lock and Shock.
Igor — Joe Ranft
Dr. Finkelstein’s assistant, Igor, is a clear homage to Frankenstein — but this version loves dog treats as a reward for a good job from his master.
