Nia Vardalos, John Corbett Making Sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Vardalos felt compelled to "write this next chapter" after experiencing motherhood
Bigger, fatter and better than ever? Nia Vardalos hopes so.
The writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding has confirmed she’s working on a sequel to the 2002 megahit, with John Corbett set to reprise his role as her love interest as well.
“I’m working on the MBFGWedding sequel; now that I’m experiencing motherhood I feel ready to write this next chapter,” Vardalos, 51, wrote on Twitter. “A few jaded press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”
After an outpouring of well wishes from fans, she added: “Thank you for the love, yes the entire big fat family is invited back for the sequel.”
The upcoming film, which does not yet have a director attached, will include the reveal of a family secret and an even “bigger and fatter” wedding that brings the family together, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Vardalos, an Oscar nominee for the first movie’s screenplay, is currently on a book tour for Instant Mom, her memoir about adopting a daughter practically overnight in 2008.
