Maria Shriver on Why Sundays Are All 'About Prayer, Family, Food and Home'

Maria Shriver opens up about how she keeps her large family together

The family that dines together, stays together!

Maria Shriver spoke to PEOPLE exclusively while promoting her new podcast Meaningful Conversations with Maria Shriver about how she keeps her large family together now that they’re all grown up.

“We do a Sunday dinner and that is great for me to do because it gives everyone a chance to come together on Sundays,” she said. “My Sunday Paper comes out on Sunday and I go to church on Sunday, so it’s a different feel, it’s about family.”

She continued, “It’s about prayer, family, food and home.”

Shriver has four children with her ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger: daughters Katherine, 29, and Christina, 27, and sons Patrick, 25, and Christopher, 21.

As for whether her kids find it as meaningful as their mother, the NBC News correspondent shared, “I think so, they tell me it is!”

“They come, it’s a free meal and it’s fun and it’s good,” she added. “I hope it’s more than that.”

With daughter Katherine now engaged to Chris Pratt, the journalist’s dinner table will get a whole lot bigger. While Shriver did not wish to comment on the engagement, saying, “It isn’t about me. So I’m going to follow their lead,” she did congratulate the happy couple on Instagram.

“Congratulations to two loving kind caring thoughtful Spiritual people,” Shriver wrote in the comments of Pratt’s Instagram. “We are so happy for you you are blessed as is everyone who knows you yes let’s go.”

On Schwarzenegger’s Instagram, the proud mother commented, “Love you enjoy this next chapter make it fun you are so loved.”

Pratt, 39, announced their engagement early Monday morning in an Instagram post in which he and Schwarzenegger cuddled up with her engagement ring front and center.

“Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go! 💍🙏♥️,” he captioned the photo.

The Avengers: Infinity War actor kept things traditional by asking Shriver and Arnold for their daughter’s hand in marriage, a source previously told PEOPLE.

“He asked for Maria and Arnold ’s blessing and was very traditional about things,” the source said.
